    Biography
    • John Milton Stoever Reimensnyder was born January 5, 1847 in Smithsburg, MD to Rev. John Junius¬†and Susannah Bryan Reimensnyder. He was educated in the Milton, PA public schools, the McEwensville Academy, and was a classical scholar at Pennsylvania College in Gettysburg. He graduated in 1870 and then studied theology, and was ordained in 1871.

While he was a theological student, he served for a short time as pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Hughesville. This was the first church built in Lycoming County, opening in 1791 in a log structure shared by several denominations in the area. The brick church above was the third church structure, and was built in 1869.

His first charge was in 1872 when the Espy charge him to be their regular pastor. The Espy charge consisted of St. John's Espy; Canby at Millertown; Christ's, Buckhorn; and St. Peter's, New Columbia. During this time, from April 1872 until July of 1873, Follmer Lutheran church was without a pastor and sometimes Rev. Reimensnyder would fill in. He resigned the Espy charge in 1875 to go to the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation of Lewistown, where he remained for twelve years.

    • He was injured when he fell from a tree while picking apples at his farm east of Milton. Accompanied by his grandson, Thomas Reimensnyder Jr., the doctor went to his farm, "Walnut Glen" to pick apples. He had climbed a tree and was standing on a limb which he thought was perfectly safe, when it suddenly snapped and dropped him a distance of fifteen feet to the ground. He suffered a broken arm and injured hip in the fall. His grandson was nearby and when he saw what had occurred, he hurried to the Sypher and Hill homes on the Broadway Road and quickly told what had happened.
